What it means
Same as P0575 with the input voltage below the plausible range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The cruise-control module monitors the dedicated input circuit, commonly the set or resume button line. P0576 sets when that input voltage falls below the module's plausible range, such as when the signal is pulled toward ground by a short or poor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Input shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Cruise control may not engage or may stop working
- Cruise control buttons may respond inconsistently
- Check-engine light may come on
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and watch the cruise input voltage or button status on a scan tool to confirm the low reading and when it occurs.
- Inspect the set/resume switch connector and harness for moisture, corrosion, pin push-back, and insulation worn through to ground.
- With the circuit diagram, check whether the input wire is shorted to ground and inspect connector terminals for excessive resistance.
- Wiggle the switch harness and connectors while monitoring the live input to see whether movement reproduces or clears the low signal.
- Test the switch and input circuit against the manufacturer's specification before considering a control-module fault.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose terminals, replacing damaged connector pins or seals as needed.
- Repair chafed wiring that is shorting the cruise input to ground.
- Replace a faulty set/resume switch if its output remains low during testing.
- Repair or replace the receiving module only if the input circuit and switch test correctly.
Can I keep driving?
You can generally drive without cruise control, but it may not engage or may stop working. Avoid relying on it, especially in traffic or on roads where unexpected loss of cruise could distract you.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
