OBD-II fault code

P0575: Cruise Control Input Circuit

What it means

A general circuit fault is detected on a cruise control input that is not specifically multiplexed - typically the dedicated set/resume button input.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The cruise-control module reads a dedicated, non-multiplexed input, often from the set or resume button, to determine which command the driver is making. P0575 sets when that input circuit has a general electrical fault that is not identified specifically as low or high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Cruise control input switch or button failed
  2. Open or short in the input wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Fault in the related control module

Symptoms

  • Cruise control may not engage or may stop working
  • Cruise control buttons may respond inconsistently
  • Check-engine light may come on

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check live cruise-control input status while pressing each button to see whether the dedicated input changes as expected.
  2. Inspect the set/resume switch or button for damage, sticking, or contamination that could prevent a clear input.
  3. Check the input circuit connectors for looseness, corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.
  4. Inspect the wiring between the switch and the receiving module for breaks, shorts, or chafing.
  5. With the wiring diagram, test circuit continuity and shorts, then compare switch operation and module input readings with the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded input connector.
  • Repair damaged or open wiring in the dedicated cruise input circuit.
  • Replace a failed set/resume switch or button.
  • Repair or replace the related control module if circuit and switch tests identify it as faulty.

Can I keep driving?

The fault usually affects cruise control rather than basic braking or steering, but cruise may fail to engage or stop working unexpectedly. Do not rely on cruise control until the input is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
