OBD-II fault code

P04CC: Fuel Fill Door Open Request Sensor or Switch Circuit Intermittent or Erratic

What it means

Same as P04C8 with intermittent or erratic signal - typically a connector or harness fault. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

How it works

The fuel-fill door open-request switch sends a changing input to the control module when operated. P04CC sets when that signal is intermittent or erratic, so the request may appear and disappear as a connector or wire loses contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Intermittent contact at connector
  2. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
  3. Harness routed against vibrating component

Symptoms

  • Open-request button may work intermittently
  • Fuel-fill door may release inconsistently

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and monitor the live request state while repeatedly pressing and releasing the button.
  2. Inspect the switch connector and harness for loose pins, corrosion, moisture, chafing, or routing against a vibrating part.
  3. Gently move the connector and harness while watching live data to locate a signal dropout or unwanted change.
  4. Check continuity through the switch and wiring while flexing suspect sections, then compare results with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the input remains erratic with sound wiring and connections, test the switch and module input.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose connector or harness so vibration cannot interrupt the signal.
  • Clean or repair corroded, wet, or damaged connector terminals.
  • Repair chafed or internally broken wiring in the open-request circuit.
  • Replace the switch if its output cuts in and out during operation.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is generally possible if the door stays closed and secure, but verify that it opens before you need fuel. Its release may work inconsistently or occur unexpectedly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
