What it means
The learned fuel-injector offset for cylinder 8 has reached its minimum limit. The code does not by itself establish whether the injector is over-delivering or identify the cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Cylinder 8's injector meters fuel into that cylinder, and the engine control module learns an offset to compensate for the injector's response. P02DA sets when that learned correction reaches its minimum allowed value; it does not prove the injector is delivering too much fuel.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Injector offset adaptation at its minimum limit
- Injector flow or response outside the learned range
- Injector wiring or driver fault
- Fuel pressure or delivery problem
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Misfire or rough idle on the affected cylinder
- Increased fuel consumption
- Possible fuel smell or smoke from exhaust
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live misfire counts and cylinder 8 fuel or injector correction data to see when the limit is reached and whether the cylinder is misfiring.
- Inspect cylinder 8 injector A's connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or damage that could disturb its control signal.
- Check for other fuel-pressure, injector-circuit, and misfire codes, then compare fuel pressure or delivery data with the manufacturer's specification.
- Test injector A's electrical circuit and driver operation using the vehicle's wiring information and the manufacturer's test procedure.
- If the circuit and fuel supply are sound, assess cylinder 8 injector flow and response with an appropriate injector test before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged cylinder 8 injector A connector or wiring.
- Correct a fuel-supply or pressure fault confirmed by testing.
- Repair an injector driver or control-circuit fault if the electrical tests identify one.
- Clean or replace cylinder 8 injector A if testing confirms its flow or response is outside the acceptable range.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs smoothly and the warning light is steady, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon because the cylinder-specific fueling fault can increase emissions and fuel use. Stop driving if the light flashes, the engine misfires badly, or fuel smell or exhaust smoke is present; continued operation can damage the catalytic converter.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
