OBD-II fault code

P02C0: Cylinder 10 - Injector Restricted

What it means

The control module detected restricted fuel flow through the cylinder 10 injector.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 10 injector meters fuel into cylinder 10 when commanded by the control module. The module evaluates fuel delivery and cylinder response, and P02C0 sets when it detects restricted flow through that injector. The code points to cylinder 10's delivery but does not prove the injector itself is the only cause.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Clogged or restricted cylinder 10 injector
  2. Contaminated fuel or deposits in the injector
  3. Low fuel pressure or restricted fuel supply
  4. Injector wiring or driver fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light on
  • Rough idle or cylinder 10 misfire
  • Reduced power or hesitation
  • Poor fuel economy

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check cylinder 10 misfire and injector-related scan data to establish when the restriction is detected.
  2. Inspect cylinder 10's injector connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or heat damage.
  3. Compare cylinder 10's contribution or injector balance with other cylinders using an appropriate scan-tool test.
  4. Check fuel pressure and supply restrictions to determine whether low delivery affects the whole engine or only cylinder 10.
  5. Test cylinder 10 injector flow and its control circuit against the manufacturer's specification before replacing parts.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the cylinder 10 injector connector if contact is poor.
  • Repair damaged cylinder 10 injector wiring.
  • Clean a restricted cylinder 10 injector if testing supports cleaning.
  • Replace the cylinder 10 injector if its flow remains restricted.
  • Repair a fuel-supply restriction or injector driver fault if testing identifies one.

Can I keep driving?

A mild hesitation with a steady check-engine light may allow a short, gentle trip for diagnosis, but avoid heavy loads. Stop driving when safe if the engine misfires severely or the light flashes, since unburned fuel can overheat the catalytic converter.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
