What it means
Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Low: the signal voltage is below the expected range. This affects fueling of the associated cylinders.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The engine control module switches and monitors the electrical circuit for the cylinder 3 fuel injector. This code sets when the circuit signal is lower than expected, potentially interrupting fuel delivery to cylinder 3.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Injector winding failed open
- Wiring or connector fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Rough idle or misfire
- Reduced power
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and cylinder-specific misfire or fuel-trim data to identify when cylinder 3 began running poorly.
- Inspect the cylinder 3 injector connector and nearby wiring for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or heat damage.
- With the ignition off, test the cylinder 3 injector winding for an open circuit and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
- Check connector pin fit and continuity through the cylinder 3 injector wiring for excessive resistance or an intermittent open.
- If the injector and wiring pass, use the wiring diagram and a suitable scan tool or circuit test to check the module's cylinder 3 injector control output.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose cylinder 3 injector connector pins.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the cylinder 3 injector circuit.
- Replace the cylinder 3 injector if its winding is open or outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair the injector control circuit or module only after confirming the wiring and injector are sound.
Can I keep driving?
A short, gentle drive may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but avoid heavy acceleration and long trips. If it misfires badly, loses power, or is hard to start, stop driving; continued misfiring can damage the catalytic converter.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
