OBD-II fault code

P025D: Fuel Pump Module A Control Circuit High

What it means

Fuel pump module A control voltage above expected range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Fuel Pump Module A uses a control circuit to regulate fuel-pump operation, and the engine control module monitors the signal on that circuit. P025D sets when the control-circuit voltage is higher than expected, which can interfere with correct pump control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring shorted to battery
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
  • Power loss especially at high load or rpm
  • Possible long cranking time

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review fuel-pump command and status data to see when the high-signal condition was recorded.
  2. Inspect Module A's harness for pinched or damaged wiring near battery-positive feeds, and check the connector for corrosion or loose pins.
  3. Test the control wire for a short to battery voltage using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
  4. Measure the control-circuit signal at the module connector under the relevant command and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the circuit is sound, test Module A and its power and ground connections for an internal fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire pinched against a battery-positive source.
  • Replace damaged wiring that has shorted to supply.
  • Clean or replace corroded or loose connector terminals.
  • Replace Fuel Pump Module A if its circuit output remains high with wiring verified.

Can I keep driving?

Hard starting, stalling, or power loss can make the vehicle unsafe to accelerate or merge. Limit driving and stop if the engine stalls or fuel delivery becomes unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
