OBD-II fault code

P025A: Fuel Pump Module A Control Circuit/Open

What it means

Open circuit at fuel pump module A control. Pump control unit cannot be commanded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Fuel Pump Module A controls or regulates the fuel pump, while the engine control module monitors the module's command circuit. P025A sets when that circuit is detected as open, so the module may not receive a command and fuel delivery can become inadequate.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring break
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
  • Power loss especially at high load or rpm
  • Possible long cranking time

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check fuel-pump command or status data to see when the open-circuit fault occurred.
  2. Inspect Fuel Pump Module A connectors and its harness for a broken wire, a backed-out pin, corrosion, or damage.
  3. With the circuit safely accessible, check connector seating and continuity through the control wiring using the manufacturer's procedure.
  4. Check the module's control-circuit connections while monitoring the circuit for an intermittent open.
  5. If wiring and connections pass, test Fuel Pump Module A and its internal connections according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reseat the module connector and secure any backed-out terminal.
  • Repair a broken or damaged control wire.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals.
  • Repair or replace the module if an internal open is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

A hard start, stall, or loss of power can leave the vehicle unable to accelerate safely, especially under load. Avoid driving if it stalls or struggles to maintain fuel delivery; a no-start may follow.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
