What it means
One or more ABS hydraulic valves do not respond as expected during self-test or operation.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The ABS hydraulic control unit uses electrically operated valves to direct brake fluid during anti-lock braking and stability control. The module checks whether the valves respond as commanded during a self-test or braking event, and sets C062D when one or more valves show an unexpected response.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- ABS hydraulic valve sticking or binding
- Valve coil or wiring fault
- Hydraulic unit fault
Symptoms
- ABS warning light on
- ESC/stability control deactivated
- Possible reduced brake assist
- Speedometer may behave erratically
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool that can access the ABS module to read the code details and freeze-frame data, noting when the valve response fault occurred.
- Check for other ABS codes and compare live valve command or status data, if available, to see whether the fault points to a particular valve.
- Inspect the ABS hydraulic unit connector and nearby wiring for loose pins, corrosion, fluid contamination, or damage.
- Check the identified valve coil and its wiring for an open, short, or poor connection using the manufacturer's test procedure.
- If wiring and coil checks pass, have the hydraulic unit assessed for a sticking valve or internal fault.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose, damaged, or corroded ABS connector or wire.
- Restore a poor connection at the affected valve coil.
- Replace a failed valve coil if it is serviceable separately.
- Repair or replace the ABS hydraulic unit if a valve is sticking internally.
Can I keep driving?
Because ABS and stability control may be unavailable, drive cautiously and leave extra stopping distance; avoid hard braking and slippery roads. If braking feels abnormal or warning lights indicate reduced braking assistance, stop safely and arrange inspection before continuing.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
