What it means
4WD/AWD Clutch A Actuator Control Circuit High: the control-circuit voltage is above the expected range. This affects engagement of the all-wheel-drive clutch.
At a glance
- Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Clutch A's actuator circuit carries the control signal that lets the 4WD/AWD system engage its clutch. The control module sets this code when circuit voltage rises above the expected range, often because the circuit is contacting battery power.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wiring shorted to battery
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- 4WD/AWD may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and 4WD/AWD module codes to identify when the high-voltage fault occurred and whether other circuit faults are stored.
- Inspect Clutch A actuator wiring for pinching, damaged insulation, or contact with a battery-positive supply.
- Check the connector for corrosion, loose terminals, or pins that could disrupt the circuit.
- Test the control wire for a short to battery voltage and measure circuit voltage against the manufacturer's specification.
- If the harness and connector pass, test the actuator and control-module output using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose actuator connector pins.
- Reroute and repair a pinched wire that is contacting a B+ source.
- Replace damaged connector terminals or harness sections.
- Replace a confirmed faulty Clutch A actuator or repair a confirmed control-module fault.
Can I keep driving?
4WD/AWD may be unavailable, so do not count on it for traction on slippery or difficult terrain. If the vehicle drives normally, limit driving to ordinary road conditions and stop if handling changes or warnings worsen.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
