OBD-II fault code

C0570: Brake Booster Travel Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The brake booster travel sensor signal is above the expected range. The module may not be able to determine booster travel correctly.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The brake booster travel sensor reports booster movement to the brake control module. C0570 sets when its signal is above the expected range, so the module cannot reliably determine booster travel.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to battery
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Brake or ABS warning light
  • Brake assist may be reduced, depending on the system

How to diagnose it

  1. Review brake-module freeze-frame and live booster-travel data to establish whether the high signal is continuous or intermittent.
  2. Inspect the booster travel sensor connector and harness for corrosion, damaged pins, pinching, or contact with a battery-positive feed.
  3. Check whether the sensor signal wire is shorted to battery voltage, following the manufacturer’s safe procedure for circuit testing.
  4. Measure the signal at the sensor connector and compare it with the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If the circuit has no short and connections are sound, check sensor operation and mounting for damage or looseness.

Common fixes

  • Repair a signal wire shorted to battery voltage.
  • Repair corroded or damaged terminals in the booster travel sensor connector.
  • Repair a pinched harness or wire contacting a B+ source.
  • Replace the booster travel sensor if its output remains high with a sound circuit.

Can I keep driving?

Brake assist may be reduced and the ABS or brake warning light may indicate limited functions. Avoid driving if braking effort or response has changed; arrange prompt inspection.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
