OBD-II fault code

C0534: Motor Control A Supply Voltage Circuit/Open

What it means

Motor Control A Supply Voltage Circuit/Open: the circuit is open. Likely a broken wire, disconnected connector, or failed component.

How it works

Motor Control A has a supply feed that the ABS module monitors separately from the channel's control signal. C0534 sets when the module detects an open in that supply path, which can prevent Motor Control A from receiving the power it needs.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Supply fuse blown
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • Traction or stability control warning light on
  • ABS functions may be limited

How to diagnose it

  1. Use an ABS-capable scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check whether C0534 is current or intermittent.
  2. Check the fuse serving the Motor Control A supply for an open element, damaged terminals, or signs of overheating.
  3. Inspect the supply connector and harness for a loose connection, pushed-back pin, broken wire, or corrosion.
  4. Follow the wiring diagram to check supply continuity and voltage at the relevant points under the manufacturer's specified conditions.
  5. If the fuse, wiring, and connector pass, test the Motor Control A load and ABS module supply path using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Replace a blown Motor Control A supply fuse after checking for the cause.
  • Reconnect or repair a loose, damaged, or corroded supply connector.
  • Repair a broken supply wire or replace a damaged terminal.
  • Repair or replace the motor or ABS module only if testing confirms an internal supply-path fault.

Can I keep driving?

ABS, traction control, or stability control may be limited because Motor Control A can lose its supply. Drive cautiously with extra stopping distance, and avoid slippery conditions or hard braking until repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
