OBD-II fault code

B012B: DC/AC Converter A High Voltage Power Outlet E Circuit/Open

What it means

The control module monitors the circuit for high-voltage power outlet E on DC/AC converter A. It sets this code when it detects an open circuit or loss of the expected electrical connection at that outlet.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the airbag (SRS) or body-system warning light

How it works

DC/AC converter A supplies an AC power outlet, and outlet E has its own monitored electrical connection. The control module sets B012B when it detects an open or loss of expected connection in outlet E’s circuit, so that outlet may not provide power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Outlet wiring open
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • Warning light or symbol related to the affected system
  • Comfort or safety function impaired

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check for related converter or outlet codes to see when the outlet E fault occurred.
  2. Inspect outlet E and its wiring for damage, pinched sections, loose connectors, or signs of overheating.
  3. Check the outlet E connector for a pushed-back, bent, or corroded pin and confirm it is fully seated.
  4. With the system made safe according to the vehicle maker’s procedure, test continuity through the outlet E circuit and check for unintended shorts against the wiring diagram.
  5. If the wiring and connectors are intact, have the converter or outlet assembly checked for an internal cracked solder joint or other module fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair or replace damaged wiring in the outlet E circuit.
  • Reseat the outlet E connector or repair a pushed-back or corroded terminal.
  • Repair or replace the outlet E assembly if its internal connection has failed.
  • Repair the converter module if testing confirms an internal cracked solder joint.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid using outlet E until it has been checked; the fault may leave that outlet without power. The vehicle may otherwise operate normally, but heed any converter or electrical-system warnings and do not handle high-voltage components.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
