What it means
Fault on the SRS (airbag) malfunction warning indicator 1 — usually the airbag warning lamp in the cluster.
At a glance
- Usually lights the airbag (SRS) or body-system warning light
How it works
Restraint system malfunction indicator 1 is the warning lamp or display that alerts the driver to an SRS fault. The restraint control module monitors its indicator circuit and sets B00D2 when that circuit or display fails to respond within the expected range, potentially preventing a clear warning of airbag-system problems.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Failed warning lamp or display
- Open or short in indicator wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
- Fault in the restraint control module
Symptoms
- Warning light or symbol related to the affected system
- Comfort or safety function impaired
How to diagnose it
- Use an SRS-capable scan tool to confirm B00D2 and read all restraint-module codes, since another SRS fault may explain the warning-indicator issue.
- Observe the airbag warning lamp or display during the normal startup check and note whether it illuminates, stays on, or behaves intermittently.
- Inspect the indicator display, cluster connectors, and accessible wiring for loose connections, corrosion, or damage.
- Following the manufacturer’s SRS procedure, test indicator circuit continuity and check for opens or shorts between the restraint module and display.
- Use scan-tool commands or data if available to compare the module’s indicator request with the actual lamp response, following manufacturer diagnostic information.
- If the display and circuit test correctly, verify restraint-module power, ground, and connectors before concluding that the module is faulty.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded connector in the SRS indicator circuit.
- Repair an open or short between the restraint module and indicator display.
- Repair or replace the failed airbag warning lamp or display component.
- Correct verified restraint-module power, ground, or connector faults.
- Replace or reprogram the restraint control module only after confirming an internal module fault.
Can I keep driving?
Do not assume the airbags or other restraints are operating normally when the SRS malfunction indicator has a fault; a separate restraint problem may also be harder to notice. Minimise driving until it is diagnosed, and have the SRS system checked promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
