What it means
The warning indicates that an exterior light may have failed or that the lighting system has detected an electrical fault. Amber generally means check and repair soon, but the symbol, colour, and detection behaviour vary by manufacturer.
What the symbol looks like: An outline of a lamp or headlight with an exclamation mark, sometimes shown with a message identifying the failed lamp.
Why it comes on
- A headlight, brake light, indicator, tail light, or other exterior bulb has failed.
- An LED lamp or lamp module has failed.
- A bulb is loose, incorrectly fitted, or has a poor connection.
- A fuse, wiring connection, or lighting control circuit has a fault.
What to do
- Park safely and check the exterior lights, using another person or a reflection if needed.
- Identify which lamp is not working and check the owner's manual for the correct replacement procedure.
- Replace a serviceable failed bulb with the specified type, or arrange repair for sealed LED units.
- Have the wiring or lighting system checked if the warning remains or no failed lamp is apparent.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving in darkness or poor visibility with a failed headlight or tail light, and do not drive with inoperative brake lights or indicators. Arrange repair promptly and follow local road rules.
Symbols and colours differ between makes and models. Your owner’s manual shows the exact lights of your car.
