Slippery road
Warning signs

Slippery road

The road may offer less grip than usual, especially when wet, icy or contaminated.

Slow down, avoid sudden braking or steering, and leave extra space from the vehicle ahead. The warning is normally placed before the section where grip may be reduced.

The common symbol shows a black car with wavy skid marks behind it. The United Kingdom’s 557 uses a red-bordered triangle, while the United States’ W8-5 and Australia’s W5-20 use yellow diamonds.

How it looks in each country

Official sign in each country; the code is its number in the national rules. Signs that come in two directions show the left and the right version.
