Vehicle type

Shows which vehicle categories a rule applies to or excludes.

The plate identifies the vehicle category covered by the main sign. Wording such as “except” indicates that the pictured category is exempt from the rule.

It is usually a rectangular plate below the main sign, with a vehicle symbol or wording. Vienna panel H,5a is an example of a plate restricting a rule to a particular vehicle category.

How it looks in each country

Official sign in each country; the code is its number in the national rules. Signs that come in two directions show the left and the right version.
