Nissan Patrol recalls
7 official safety recalls for the Nissan Patrol from NHTSA (United States), DVSA (United Kingdom) and the EU Safety Gate, newest first. Recall repairs are normally free at the maker’s dealers.
Whether your car is affected and still needs the repair depends on its VIN or registration. Check it on the official site for your country:

Passenger airbag inflator may need replacement
A non-desiccated passenger airbag inflator was fitted during an earlier repair. Replace it with a new desiccated inflator.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- A NON-DESSICATED PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR WAS USED DURING PREVIOUS RECALL TO REPLACE THIS COMPONENT
- Defect
- In 2013 Nissan announced a Recall campaign to replace Takata SPI front passenger airbag inflators. A non-dessicated passenger airbag inflator was used for the replacement. Although there have been no known incidents associated with inflators of this type Nissan has decided to replace all inflators previously repaired with a non-dessicated inflator to a new dessicated version.
- Remedy
- Replace the front passenger airbag inflator with a new dessicated type.
Airbag inflators checked in an earlier recall to be replaced
Inflators previously checked and deemed serviceable will be replaced with new airbag assemblies as a precaution.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- REPLACE AIRBAG INFLATORS CHECKED BUT NOT REPLACED UNDER PREVIOUS RECALL R/2015/093
- Defect
- The air bag inflators on affected vehicles were previously checked and deemed to be serviceable. As a precautionary measure the manufacturer has decided to replace them with new assemblies.
- Remedy
- On affected vehicles replace air bag assembly.
Passenger airbag inflator may deploy abnormally
The passenger airbag inflator propellant may deteriorate and cause abnormal deployment. In extreme circumstances, pressure could build up and separate the airbag housing. The front passenger airbag module will be replaced.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- AIRBAG MAY FAIL
- Defect
- The airbag manufacturer have informed Nissan of a potential concern with propellant degradation of Front Passenger Airbag fitted with Smokeless Passenger Inflator (SPI). It has been confirmed that this degradation is a function of time temperature and environmental moisture. Deterioration of the Inflator propellant may under certain usage conditions lead to abnormal deployment of the Passenger Airbag. In an extreme situation this condition could create excessive pressure within the inflator during airbag deployment and may result in separation of the airbag housing.
- Remedy
- Recall all affected vehicles to replace the front passenger airbag module with a new quality controlled item.
Passenger airbag inflator propellant may deteriorate
A possible air leak may let moisture into the passenger airbag inflator and deteriorate its propellant. The airbag may deploy abnormally, and its housing could separate and injure occupants. The airbag assembly will be inspected and the inflator replaced if needed.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MAY FAIL TO DEPLOY CORRECTLY
- Defect
- The manufacturer has identified that a potential air leak at the passenger airbag inflators which may allow moisture to enter the airbag inflator causing the propellant in the inflator units to deteriorate. Deterioration of the propellant may lead to abnormal deployment of the passenger airbag. In an extreme situation this may result in separation of the airbag housing during deployment causing injury to occupants.
- Remedy
- Inspect air bag assembly and where required replace air bag inflator
Engine may stall at idle
Wear in the accelerator pedal position sensor may limit acceleration and, in extreme cases with dust in the throttle valve, cause the engine to stall at idle. Dealers will replace the throttle pedal assembly.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- ENGINE MAY STALL
- Defect
- It has been identified that the accelerator pedal position sensor located in the accelerator pedal assembly may provide an incorrect signal due to sensor terminal wear. If this occurs the ECM will detect the sensor failure and illuminate the engine management waning lamp on the dash. It will also control and` limit vehicle acceleration. However in extreme case if this situation occurs and there is excessive dust in the throttle valve which could affect the amount of intake air then the engine could stall at idle speed.
- Remedy
- Recall all affected vehicles and replace the throttle pedal assembly.
Passenger airbag inflator may rupture
Improperly made propellant wafers may cause the passenger airbag inflator to rupture and the airbag to deploy abnormally in a crash, increasing injury risk and possibly causing a fire. The inflator module will be inspected and replaced if necessary.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MAY FAIL TO DEPLOY CORRECTLY
- Defect
- The subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger airbag inflators which could have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers. Improperly manufactured propellant wafers could cause the inflator to rupture and the front passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in a crash. This could result in increased risk of injury to the occupant and the possibility of a fire.
- Remedy
- Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to inspect and where necessary replace the airbag inflator module.
Passenger airbag inflator may rupture
The airbag propellant may burn too quickly, causing excessive pressure that could rupture the inflator casing and scatter metal fragments. The front passenger airbag assembly will be replaced.
Official DVSA recall text
- Component
- IF DEPLOYED THE AIRBAG MAY ENDANGER PASSENGER
- Defect
- The combustion rate of the airbag propellant may be too fast causing excessive internal pressure in the inflator during airbag deployment. In an extreme case the inflator casing may rupture leading to a scattering of metal fragments.
- Remedy
- Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the front passenger airbag assembly.
