Reported July 25, 2014Model years 2012–2013DVSA recall R/2014/072574 vehicles affected

A misplaced oil seal may let transmission fluid pass into the transfer box, causing low pressure, poor shifting and a warning light. Fluid may leak onto the road, and the vehicle could lose all drive. Dealers will inspect the transfer box and replace it if affected.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    POSSIBLE LOSS OF DRIVE
    Defect
As a result of incorrect machining of the oil seal installation aperture in the transfer cover by one of the transfer box suppliers it is possible the oil seal may move from its intended position in the casing. This can result Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) passing from the main gearbox into the transfer casing causing the ATF pressure to drop which will result in poor shifting and the illumination of a warning lamp on the instrument panel. Also as the oil level in the transfer box increase it can leak out from the transfer box breather pipe onto the road surface. In the worst case scenario the vehicle can lose all drive.
    Remedy
Recall all affected vehicles to inspect the transfer box. If found to be one of the affected transfer boxes then the transfer box will be replaced.

Reported July 1, 2013DVSA recall R/2013/074385 vehicles affected

In a tunnel, adaptive cruise control may mistake the wall for a vehicle and apply the brakes. A calculation error may also disable adaptive cruise control and front collision mitigation, with warning messages and an alarm. The control unit software will be updated.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL MAY FAIL TO OPERATE AND/OR CAUSE BRAKES TO APPLY
    Defect
One or both of the following may occur: 1) While driving through a tunnel with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) operating the ACC control unit may judge that the tunnel wall is a vehicle in front. This can result in the ACC system automatically applying the brakes to reduce vehicle speed. 2) Due to a calculation error in the ACC/Front Collision Mitigation (FCM) control unit ACC failure and Active Stability Control (ASC) failure may be displayed in the combination meter along with an audible warning alarm. Component
    ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH
    Defect
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, WATER COULD ENTER THE FRONT FLOORBOARD AREA FROM OPENINGS IN THE SIDE SILL OR UPPER DASH AREA. THIS WATER COULD COLLECT UNDER THE SEAT AND CAUSE ELECTRICAL CORROSION TO OCCUR IN THE HARNESS CONNECTORS THAT CONTAIN THE WIRING FOR THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER, SIDE AIR BAG IMPACT SENSOR, AND STOP LAMPS.
    Consequence
ELECTRICAL CORROSION OF THE HARNESS COULD CAUSE THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER TO MALFUNCTION, THE SIDE AIR BAG NOT TO DEPLOY AND/OR THE BRAKE LAMPS NOT TO ILLUMINATE OR TO FALSELY ILLUMINATE.
    Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SIDE SILLS AND DASH PANEL FOR OPENINGS THAT MAY ALLOW WATER LEAKAGE INTO THE VEHICLE CABIN. IN ADDITION TO SEALING ANY OPENINGS THAT MAY BE FOUND, THE WIRING CONNECTORS WILL BE INSPECTED FOR SIGNS OF ELECTRICAL CORROSION. THE FLOOR HARNESS WILL BE REPLACED IF IT HAS ANY SIGNS OF WATER DAMAGE OR ELECTRICAL CORROSION. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 23, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI AMERICA AT 1-800-222-0037 OR MITSUBISHI CARIBBEAN AT 1-787-251-8715.
