Fiat Multipla recalls

4 official safety recalls for the Fiat Multipla from NHTSA (United States), DVSA (United Kingdom) and the EU Safety Gate, newest first. Recall repairs are normally free at the maker’s dealers.

Whether your car is affected and still needs the repair depends on its VIN or registration. Check it on the official site for your country:

  1. Brake hoses may restrict fluid flow

Reported December 7, 2007Model years 2007DVSA recall R/2007/17324,020 vehicles affected

Brake hoses may be incorrectly vulcanised and restrict brake fluid flow, reducing braking efficiency. The hoses will be checked and affected ones replaced.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    BRAKES MAY FAIL
    Defect
Due to the possibility of a fault in the production process the flexible rubber brake hoses may not have been correctly vulcanised. As a consequence may partially or totally restrict the internal flow of the brake hydraulic fluid. Should this happen a reduction in efficiency during braking would occur.
    Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have the hoses checked to identify if they are within the affected batch. If this is the case they will be replaced with quality assured items.
  2. Fuel pipe connector may leak

Reported February 2, 2007Model years 2006DVSA recall R/2006/22414 vehicles affected

Incorrect profiling of a rigid fuel pipe at its connector could allow a fuel leak and cause a fire in the engine compartment. A locking insert will be fitted to prevent the connector from coming loose.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
POSSIBILITY OF A FUEL LEAK AND RISK OF FIRE
    Defect
Due to the incorrect profiling of a rigid fuel pipe at the quick fit connection with the flexible fuel pipe for the injection manifold. The possibility exists that a fuel leak may develop at the connector and result in a fire in the engine compartment.
    Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have a locking insert fitted within the quick fit connector in order to prevent the connector from becoming loose.
  3. Handbrake cable may wear brake pipe and cause a leak

Reported July 26, 2006Model years 2002–2003DVSA recall R/2006/0852,278 vehicles affected

The handbrake cable may rub against the right rear rigid brake pipe, wearing it and potentially causing brake fluid loss and longer stopping distances. The cable routing will be checked and rubber pads fitted to the pipe.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    BRAKE FLUID MAY LEAK
    Defect
It may be possible for the handbrake cable to foul the rigid brake pipe at the right hand rear suspension arm. In time this could lead to wear of the rigid brake pipe and as a consequence there maybe a loss of brake fluid and longer stopping distances.
    Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to check the routing of the handbrake cable and fit rubber pads to the rigid brake pipe to prevent fouling.
  4. Front suspension coil spring may break

Reported March 24, 2006Model years 1999–2004DVSA recall R/2006/01510,276 vehicles affected

Corrosion inside the protective sheath on the front suspension springs may eventually cause a spring to break. The front coil springs will be replaced with a new type.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    SUSPENSION COIL SPRING MAY BREAK
    Defect
Under environmental conditions that require intensive use of salt on the roads corrosive deposits accumulate inside the noise-insulating protective sheath located on the front suspension springs creating areas of corrosion which may lead to the spring breaking after a period of time.
    Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the front coil springs with those of a new type.
