  1. Engine oil filter may leak and cause a fire risk

Reported July 23, 2001Model years 1967–1989DVSA recall R/2001/0985,958 vehicles affected

Incorrect tightening and a less compliant O-ring may cause a serious oil leak and fire risk. A new type of oil filter will be fitted.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    ENGINE OIL FILTER MAY LEAK
    Defect
Incorrect tightening of the engine oil filter coupled with a less compliant O ring design could result in a serious oil leak and subsequent fire risk.
    Remedy
Recall affected vehicles and fit a new type oil filter - Part No. 191993
  2. Front suspension mounting forks may fail after impact

Reported June 7, 1999Model years 1986–1988DVSA recall R/1999/032282 vehicles affected

A substantial impact may deform the lower front suspension arm mounting forks. If the damage goes unnoticed, the forks may eventually fail and the front suspension may collapse. The mounting forks are replaced with stronger ones.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
POSSIBILITY THAT IMPACT DISTORTION TO FRONT SUSPENSION COULD RESULT IN SUBSEQUENT FAILURE
    Defect
The lower front suspension arm mounting forks could deform after a substantial impact (for example after an accident) and should this condition remain unnoticed the eventual result could be the failure of the forks resulting in the collapse of the front suspension.
    Remedy
Recall affected vehicles and fit an uprated stronger mounting fork.
  3. Front suspension arm forks may deform

Reported July 5, 1989Model years 1986–1988NHTSA campaign 89V1110001,331 vehicles affected

Front lower suspension arm forks may deform after a substantial impact, eventually allowing the arm to collapse and impairing handling, potentially causing a crash. Four front lower suspension arm forks will be replaced with thicker forks.

    Official NHTSA recall text
    Component
    SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM
    Defect
FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION ARM FORKS COULD DEFORM AFTER SUBSTANTIAL IMPACTS, SUCH AS IN AN ACCIDENT.
    Consequence
THIS COULD RESULT IN EVENTUAL COLLAPSE OF THE SUSPENSIONARM WITH IMPAIRED HANDLING, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
    Remedy
REPLACE FOUR FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION ARM FORKS WITH FORKS OF A GREATER THICKNESS.

  4. Fuel return hose may chafe and leak

Reported December 11, 1986Model years 1986NHTSA campaign 86V162000588 vehicles affected

The fuel return hose may chafe against the air conditioner compressor's metal discharge connector, potentially causing a fuel leak and fire. The hose will be repositioned and replaced if it is abraded or damaged.

    Official NHTSA recall text
    Component
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
    Defect
FLEXIBLE RUBBER HOSE FOR RETURN OF FUEL TO RIGHT SIDE FUEL TANK MAY CHAFE IF POSITIONED TOO CLOSE TO METALLIC DISCHARGE CONNECTOR OF AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: FUEL LEAKAGE COULD OCCUR CREATING A FIRE POTENTIAL.
    Remedy
REPOSITION FLEXIBLE FUEL HOSE; REPLACE IF HOSE SHOWS ABRASION OR DAMAGE.
    Notes
SYSTEM: FUEL HOSE.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS.
  5. Engine oil radiator hoses may leak

Reported December 11, 1986Model years 1986NHTSA campaign 86V161000550 vehicles affected

Poorly clamped connectors could let the engine oil radiator hoses leak. Low lubrication could severely damage the engine, and leaking oil could cause a fire. The upper and lower hoses will be replaced with improved hoses, and the oil pressure regulating valve assembly will be updated.

    Official NHTSA recall text
    Component
    ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:HOSES/LINES/PIPING/FITTINGS
    Defect
THE FLEXIBLE OIL HOSES FOR THE ENGINE OIL RADIATOR COULD LEAK ENGINE OIL DUE TO INSUFFICIENT CLAMPING OF THE METAL CONNECTORS TO FLEXIBLE PORTION OF OIL HOSE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LACK OF LUBRICATION COULD CAUSE SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE; OIL LEAKAGE COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE.
    Remedy
REPLACE LOWER AND UPPER HOSES CONNECTING ENGINE OIL RADIATOR WITH IMPROVED HOSES. ALSO, UPDATE OIL PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE ASSEMBLY.
    Notes
SYSTEM: FLEXIBLE OIL HOSES. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS.
