What is the Chevrolet Cruze?

The Cruze is Chevrolet’s compact family car. Depending on market and generation, it was offered as a saloon, hatchback or estate, giving the model a practical role for everyday journeys and carrying passengers or luggage. The Cruze was part of General Motors’ effort to offer a compact car under the Chevrolet name across multiple regions.

Generations and body styles

The first generation, J300, ran from 2009 to 2016 in Europe and the UK, and from 2011 to 2016 in the United States and Canada. It arrived in these markets at different times and came in several body styles depending on region. The second generation, J400, ran from 2016 to 2019 in the United States and Canada. Its dates overlap with the J300’s European run because the model change happened at different times across markets.

Engines and fuel consumption

EU registration figures cover engines from 1.4 to 2.0 litres, with power from 74 kW (101 PS) to 120 kW (163 PS). Listed fuels include petrol, diesel, LPG and natural gas. UK and French listings cover petrol and diesel versions, with power from 81 kW (110 PS) to 120 kW (163 PS). The lowest listed consumption in both markets is 3.7 L/100 km on the NEDC test.

In the United States and Canada, listings span 1.4- to 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The lowest listed consumption is 6.4 L/100 km on the EPA test and 6.3 L/100 km on Canada’s NRCan 5-cycle test. NEDC, EPA and Canadian 5-cycle results use different procedures, so they are best understood within their own markets.

Where was the Cruze sold?

The Cruze appears in EU registration figures from 2010 to 2016, totalling 221,622 registrations. UK listings run from 2010 to 2015, while French listings cover 2012 to 2014. US and Canadian listings span 2011 to 2019. Engine choices and body styles varied by region, while the Cruze retained its role as Chevrolet’s compact car.
