OBD-II fault code

U3557: Hydrogen Tank C Valve Enable Circuit

What it means

Hydrogen Tank C Valve Enable Circuit: an electrical fault is present in the circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The Tank C valve enable circuit supplies the electrical permission for that tank’s valve control. This code sets when the enable path has an electrical fault, potentially leaving the Tank C valve unable to operate when requested.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Enable wire open or relay failed
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan all modules for related communication, relay, and power-supply codes.
  2. Check live data for the Tank C valve enable request and status, if available, to see whether enable is being commanded.
  3. With the vehicle safely powered down under its service instructions, inspect the Tank C enable wiring, connectors, and relay area for damage or corrosion.
  4. Test the enable fuse, relay, and circuit continuity using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and specification.
  5. If other modules also show communication faults, have the gateway and CAN termination checked against the manufacturer's specification.
  6. If the enable circuit tests correctly, verify the Tank C valve enable input and control response using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair an open, loose, or damaged Tank C enable wire or connector.
  • Replace a failed fuse or enable relay once the circuit has been checked.
  • Correct a confirmed gateway routing or CAN network fault.
  • Repair the Tank C enable input or control hardware if it fails the specified test.

Can I keep driving?

The Tank C valve may not be enabled, which can cause reduced power or system shutdown; limit driving and stop safely if warnings or performance worsen. Arrange prompt diagnosis and leave hydrogen-system work to qualified technicians.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
