What it means
The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with smart crankcase pressure sensor. PCV/blow-by monitoring cannot be evaluated and the related emission monitor cannot run.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
A smart crankcase pressure sensor sends pressure data over the vehicle network for crankcase ventilation and blow-by monitoring. U060E sets when the engine control module stops receiving those messages, preventing the related emissions monitor from evaluating crankcase pressure.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Bus wiring open or shorted
- Module without power or ground
- Module failed
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan all modules for communication codes to determine when crankcase pressure data disappeared and whether other network faults are present.
- Check live crankcase pressure data for a missing or frozen reading and note any related ventilation or emissions faults.
- Inspect the crankcase pressure sensor connector and nearby bus wiring for loose terminals, oil contamination, chafing, or shorts.
- Verify the sensor or module power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification.
- Test the network wiring for opens or shorts, then assess the sensor module if its wiring and supplies are intact.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or clean the crankcase pressure sensor connector.
- Repair damaged or shorted bus wiring to the sensor.
- Restore the sensor module's power or ground connection.
- Replace the crankcase pressure sensor module if its network path and supplies are sound but it remains offline.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs normally, a short trip is generally reasonable, but crankcase ventilation monitoring and emissions readiness may be affected. Stop if you notice oil leaks, smoke, or worsening engine behavior.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
