OBD-II fault code

U0578: Invalid Data Received From Seat Module K

What it means

A receiving control module has detected invalid data from Seat Module K. The code does not specify which data is invalid or why.

How it works

Seat Module K sends seat-related status or control data to other vehicle modules over the network. U0578 is set when a receiving module judges data attributed to Module K invalid; the code does not identify the bad value or show whether the cause is the seat, wiring, software, or network.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame details, since related body, seat, restraint, or network codes can narrow down the affected data.
  2. Check which seat functions are inoperative or behave unexpectedly and note whether the problem began after seat or module work.
  3. Inspect Module K's connectors and visible wiring near the seat for damage, looseness, corrosion, or trapped wires.
  4. Use a capable scan tool to review available Module K data and compare reported seat positions or commands with the observed seat function.
  5. Check the module's power and ground connections and confirm correct software and configuration if the module was replaced.
  6. If these checks do not reveal the cause, test network communication and gateway routing using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or contaminated Module K connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring in the seat harness.
  • Correct module software or configuration after seat-module replacement.
  • Repair a faulty seat input or actuator only when testing shows it is causing invalid data.
  • Replace Module K or repair the gateway only if diagnostic testing confirms the fault.

Can I keep driving?

If the seat will not lock securely in position or an affected restraint warning is present, do not drive until the safety issue is checked. For other seat-function faults, avoid adjusting the seat while moving and arrange diagnosis soon.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
