OBD-II fault code

U0543: Invalid Data Received From Headlamp Control Module B

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from headlamp control module B (matrix LED / adaptive driving beam). Beam segment or actuator values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

Headlamp control module B manages the matrix LED or adaptive driving-beam functions assigned to it. Other modules check its reported beam-segment and actuator values for plausibility; this code sets when module B's data fails those checks and is rejected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save freeze-frame and communication details to identify which recipient logged U0543 and what beam-segment or actuator data from module B was rejected.
  2. Check live data for module B's beam segments and actuator positions, and compare the reported state with the actual operation of the headlamp it controls.
  3. Inspect that headlamp, its connectors, and module B's wiring for impact damage, moisture, loose pins, or corrosion.
  4. Check service history for a headlamp or module replacement, or software update that could have left module B incorrectly configured or incompatible.
  5. Use network diagnostics to check CAN communication and gateway routing for module B, then test headlamp inputs and actuator feedback according to the manufacturer's procedures.

Common fixes

  • Repair loose, damaged, or corroded wiring and connectors at the headlamp controlled by module B.
  • Correct module B's software or configuration after a headlamp or module replacement.
  • Repair or replace a faulty beam actuator or input if testing identifies it.
  • Repair or replace headlamp control module B if its reported values remain implausible with valid inputs.
  • Correct gateway routing if network diagnostics identify it as the cause.

Can I keep driving?

The headlamp controlled by module B may lose adaptive or matrix-beam functions, and its beam pattern may not adjust as intended. Avoid relying on high-beam assistance, and get the lighting fault diagnosed promptly if visibility or beam aim is affected.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
