OBD-II fault code

U0277: Lost Communication With Seat Control Module K

What it means

The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with seat control module K. Power-seat positions, memory presets and heating/ventilation requests routed through this node are no longer answered.

How it works

Seat Control Module K handles the seat functions assigned to that node, such as power adjustment, memory presets, or heating and ventilation requests. The vehicle bus monitors for its responses, and this code sets when Module K stops communicating.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Bus wiring open or shorted
  2. Module without power or ground
  3. Module failed

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save communication codes and freeze-frame data to check whether the fault is limited to Seat Control Module K.
  2. Try the seat adjustments and memory, heating, or ventilation functions routed through Module K, noting which are unavailable.
  3. Inspect Module K's connector and under-seat wiring for loose plugs, corrosion, trapped wires, or damage from seat movement.
  4. Check the module's power and ground using the manufacturer's procedure, accounting for any specified ignition or seat conditions.
  5. Test the bus wiring to Module K for opens or shorts before replacing the module.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose Module K connector and secure the harness away from moving seat parts.
  • Repair damaged under-seat bus wiring.
  • Restore a missing power or ground supply to Module K.
  • Replace Module K if its power, ground, and bus circuit are sound but it remains unresponsive.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle is generally driveable if the seat is securely locked in a safe position, but unavailable adjustment can leave you poorly positioned to reach the controls. Do not drive if the seat is loose or cannot be secured.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
