OBD-II fault code

U011F: Lost Communication With V2X Module

What it means

ECU lost CAN communication with the V2X (vehicle-to-everything) module. Connected/cooperative driving features degraded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

The V2X module handles vehicle-to-everything communication used by equipped vehicles to exchange information with nearby vehicles or infrastructure. This code sets when the engine control module no longer receives expected CAN messages from the V2X module, which can disable cooperative or connected driving features.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module unpowered
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules for U011F and related network codes, and identify whether only the V2X module or several modules are unreachable.
  2. Review freeze-frame data and live network status to determine when the V2X communication stopped and whether the fault is intermittent.
  3. Inspect the V2X module's connectors, antenna-related harness routing, and network wiring for damage, moisture, or loose terminals.
  4. Check the module's power and ground circuits using the manufacturer's specified procedure.
  5. Test CAN wiring and any network termination points specified for the V2X branch; avoid applying assumed resistance values.
  6. If wiring and supplies pass, check gateway message routing and V2X module operation with vehicle-specific diagnostics.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged V2X module connector or harness.
  • Restore a failed power feed or ground to the V2X module.
  • Repair an open, short, or termination issue in the CAN network as identified by the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Repair a confirmed gateway fault or replace and configure the V2X module if testing confirms it has failed.

Can I keep driving?

Basic driving may remain available, but connected or cooperative driving features that rely on V2X communication may be unavailable. Do not rely on those features for collision avoidance or traffic decisions while this fault is present.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
