OBD-II fault code

U0107: Lost Communication with Throttle Actuator Control Module

What it means

A control module has lost communication with the throttle actuator control module. Throttle operation or engine power may be limited on applicable vehicles.

How it works

The throttle actuator control module manages the electronic throttle actuator on vehicles with a separate module. It exchanges throttle and operating status with other modules over the network. U0107 sets when a reporting module stops receiving expected messages from the throttle actuator control module, which can cause the vehicle to limit engine power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Loss of module power or ground
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged communication wiring or connector
  3. Module or gateway fault

Symptoms

  • Warning lights or messages
  • Reduced engine power may occur
  • Communication faults in other modules

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules for U0107 and related throttle or network codes, and save freeze-frame data before clearing codes.
  2. Check for reduced-power warnings and note whether accelerator response is limited, inconsistent, or absent.
  3. With the ignition off, inspect the throttle actuator control module connectors and harness for loose terminals, corrosion, or damage.
  4. Check the module's power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification, including relevant fuse supplies.
  5. Test the communication wiring for opens, shorts, or poor connections using the vehicle wiring diagram.
  6. If power, ground, and network wiring are sound, use vehicle-specific diagnostics to assess the module and throttle system before replacing components.

Common fixes

  • Secure or clean a loose or corroded throttle actuator control module connector.
  • Repair damaged network wiring or a poor ground connection.
  • Restore module power and correct the cause of a failed fuse.
  • Repair a gateway or network fault if testing identifies it.
  • Replace or program the throttle actuator control module only after its circuits and related throttle components pass checks.

Can I keep driving?

If reduced power or unpredictable throttle response is present, avoid driving in traffic or at speed and stop somewhere safe; arrange recovery if control is unreliable. Continuing to drive with limited throttle response can leave you unable to accelerate as expected.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
