What it means
A control module detects an open circuit on the positive conductor of vehicle communication bus A. It sets the code when bus monitoring identifies a loss of continuity or communication on that conductor.
How it works
Vehicle communication bus A uses a positive conductor to carry network signals between connected modules. U0030 is set when monitoring detects a break in continuity or communication on that conductor, which can leave some or all bus A modules unreachable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Broken or disconnected bus wire
- Loose or corroded connector
- Damaged wiring harness
- Faulty module connected to the bus
- Poor ground or power at a module
Symptoms
- Communication warning lights
- Multiple warning messages
- Some systems unavailable
- No start in some cases
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and save event data, noting which bus A nodes are missing and whether the fault appeared with a no-start or warning messages.
- Inspect the bus A positive conductor and its connectors for a disconnected plug, broken wire, corrosion, or harness damage.
- Check the affected modules' power and grounds so a local supply fault is not mistaken for an open bus conductor.
- With the vehicle in the manufacturer's specified power state, check continuity along the bus A positive wire and compare results with service information.
- If the wire is intact, isolate connected modules and the gateway as directed by the manufacturer to identify a node or routing fault interrupting the conductor.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a disconnected bus A connector.
- Repair a broken or damaged bus A positive wire.
- Clean or replace a corroded connector or terminal.
- Repair module power or ground, or replace a faulty node or gateway if testing confirms it is interrupting communication.
Can I keep driving?
A bus A open can disable multiple vehicle functions and may prevent starting, so avoid unnecessary trips until the affected systems are known. Do not drive if it disables safety-related controls or causes unpredictable behavior.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
