What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the dc/dc converter temperature sensor d circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
DC/DC converter temperature sensor D measures temperature at its designated point on the converter and reports it to the control module. This range/performance code sets when the circuit operates but the reported temperature or its response does not behave as expected, which can result from sensor drift or poor sensor positioning.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check-engine light or hybrid-system warning
- Reduced hybrid power or performance
- Hybrid-system temperature warning
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and related converter codes, noting the reported sensor D temperature and vehicle operating conditions when the fault set.
- Compare sensor D’s live temperature with other converter temperature readings and ambient conditions; look for a value or change that is implausible rather than simply absent.
- Inspect sensor D’s mounting and contact at its designated location for looseness, displacement, or anything preventing proper temperature sensing.
- Check the sensor D connector and wiring for corrosion, damage, or intermittent contact, then verify the circuit against the manufacturer’s specification.
- If mounting and wiring are sound, test sensor D’s response using the manufacturer’s procedure to determine whether its characteristic has drifted.
Common fixes
- Secure sensor D in its specified mounting position.
- Repair a poor connector contact or damaged sensor D wiring.
- Replace sensor D if its readings fail the manufacturer’s response or calibration checks.
- Clear the fault and confirm that sensor D tracks converter temperature plausibly under changing operating conditions.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may limit hybrid power if it cannot trust converter temperature D, so avoid strenuous driving and pay attention to any hybrid temperature warning. Stop safely if power is restricted or a warning indicates the converter is overheating.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
