OBD-II fault code

P2C34: Crankcase Pressure Sensor B Circuit Low

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the crankcase pressure sensor b circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Crankcase pressure sensor B sends a signal to the ECM representing pressure in the crankcase. This low-circuit code sets when the signal voltage stays below the expected range, which can happen if the signal is grounded or the sensor is internally shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough or uneven idle
  • Lower fuel economy

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live sensor B readings to confirm the signal is low when the code sets.
  2. Inspect sensor B's connector and harness for corrosion, pin damage, or a signal wire rubbed through against ground.
  3. With the circuit safely isolated as specified by the manufacturer, check the sensor B signal wire for a short to ground.
  4. Check sensor B's reference supply and ground, then test the sensor output using the manufacturer's specifications.
  5. Repair the short, connection, or failed sensor as indicated, then confirm the signal rises into a plausible range and the code does not return.

Common fixes

  • Repair a sensor B signal wire shorted to ground.
  • Clean corroded connector pins and restore a secure connection.
  • Replace crankcase pressure sensor B if its internal short is confirmed.
  • Clear the code and verify sensor B's live signal.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine remains stable, a short gentle drive may be possible, but avoid long trips if rough idle develops. The ECM cannot use the low sensor B reading reliably, so worsening engine behavior or fuel use is possible.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
