OBD-II fault code

P2B8F: Turbocharger/Supercharger B Temperature Sensor Circuit

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit fault on the turbocharger/supercharger b temperature sensor. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Temperature Sensor B monitors temperature in the turbocharger or supercharger system, and the control module uses its signal to manage engine operation and protection. This code sets when the module detects a fault in Sensor B's circuit and cannot trust that temperature reading, which may lead it to limit power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Significant power loss / limp mode
  • Possible blue or black smoke from exhaust
  • Whistling or hissing sound from intake

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan-tool values for Turbocharger/Supercharger B temperature, boost, and related sensor readings to see when the signal became implausible.
  2. Inspect Sensor B's connector and wiring near the turbocharger or supercharger for heat damage, chafing, loose pins, or oil contamination.
  3. Compare the Sensor B temperature reading with other available temperature readings when the engine is cold and after warm-up for an implausible value or lack of response.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test Sensor B's signal, supply, and ground circuits for opens, shorts, or poor connections against the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the wiring checks out, test the Turbocharger/Supercharger B temperature sensor and verify the result before replacing it.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect Sensor B and secure its harness away from hot or moving components.
  • Repair damaged or heat-degraded wiring in the Sensor B circuit.
  • Repair poor power, ground, or connector contact identified during circuit testing.
  • Replace the Turbocharger/Supercharger B temperature sensor if it fails testing.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle has lost power, entered limp mode, or produces unusual smoke, avoid boost and heavy loads and stop if it runs roughly or overheats. Continuing to drive with an unreliable Sensor B reading can leave the forced-induction system without dependable temperature feedback; have it checked promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
