OBD-II fault code

P2B7B: EVAP System Pressure Sensor/Switch C Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The EVAP pressure sensor/switch C reports a circuit range/performance condition. Tank pressure plausibility for leak detection on this branch is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

EVAP pressure sensor or switch C measures pressure in its branch of the fuel-vapour system so the control module can assess leaks. P2B7B means the C reading is electrically plausible enough to be received but does not track the expected range or pressure behaviour, such as from sensor drift or a restricted port.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor zero drifted
  2. Sensor port restricted
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible smell of fuel near tank or engine bay
  • Failed emissions inspection
  • Loose-cap warning may appear

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame and live EVAP pressure data to see whether sensor C is stuck, offset, or behaving unexpectedly during the recorded conditions.
  2. Inspect the fuel cap and accessible EVAP hoses and sensor C's pressure port for looseness, damage, blockage, or contamination.
  3. Check sensor C's connector, wiring, supply, and ground for faults that could distort the reading, using the manufacturer's diagram.
  4. Compare sensor C's reading with the manufacturer's expected values under the specified test conditions.
  5. If the port and circuit are sound, test sensor C's response across the manufacturer's procedure to confirm drift or degraded performance.

Common fixes

  • Clear a restriction from sensor C's pressure port using the manufacturer's service procedure.
  • Repair a loose, damaged, or leaking EVAP hose or connection affecting sensor C.
  • Repair poor wiring or connector contact at EVAP pressure sensor C.
  • Replace sensor C if its readings remain out of range after the port and circuit pass inspection.

Can I keep driving?

Driving is usually possible if the vehicle runs normally, but inaccurate sensor C pressure readings can compromise leak detection and cause an emissions inspection failure. If fuel vapour is strongly noticeable or a leak is visible, stop and arrange prompt inspection.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
