OBD-II fault code

P2B13: Cylinder 2 Injection Pulse Offset Exceeded Learning Limit

What it means

The injection pulse offset adaptation for cylinder 2 exceeds the calibrated learning window. Injector aging or fuel pressure drift beyond compensation.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The ECM learns a pulse correction for cylinder 2's injector to keep that cylinder's combustion balanced with the rest of the engine. This code sets when the required cylinder 2 correction goes beyond the range the ECM is calibrated to apply, which can reflect injector wear or fuel-rail pressure drift.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Injector worn beyond compensation range
  2. Fuel rail pressure drift

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough idle or engine vibration
  • Reduced engine performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and scan for cylinder 2 misfire, injector, and fuel-pressure codes to establish when the correction exceeded its range.
  2. Compare cylinder contribution and learned injector corrections across cylinders to confirm whether cylinder 2 is the main outlier.
  3. Inspect the cylinder 2 injector connector, wiring, and visible fuel connections for damage, poor contact, or leakage.
  4. Check actual versus commanded fuel-rail pressure under the conditions recorded in freeze-frame data, using the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Test cylinder 2 injector delivery and sealing with the manufacturer's procedure before deciding whether replacement is warranted.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged or poorly connected wiring at the cylinder 2 injector.
  • Correct a confirmed fuel-rail pressure control or supply fault.
  • Replace the cylinder 2 injector if testing shows it is worn or outside the required delivery range.
  • Clear the code and verify cylinder 2 correction and engine operation after the underlying fault is repaired.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the engine vibrates, runs unevenly, or has reduced power; gentle travel to a repair location may be reasonable if the light is steady and symptoms are mild. Ongoing poor combustion can increase emissions and damage the catalytic converter, so stop if the light flashes or the engine shakes severely.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
