What it means
During cold start, the intake manifold runner control on bank 2 cannot reach the open position. Air supply may be restricted as the engine warms up.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The intake manifold runner control opens or closes internal flaps to shape airflow as the engine warms. The engine control module monitors the Bank 2 runner position during cold-start operation and sets P2AB6 when the flaps remain closed instead of reaching the commanded open position, which can restrict airflow as temperature rises.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Runner actuator or linkage fault
- Carbon or debris restricting runner movement
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may be on
- Rough idle after a cold start
- Reduced power as the engine warms up
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and cold-start live data to compare the Bank 2 runner command with the reported position as the engine warms.
- Inspect the Bank 2 actuator, linkage, and connector for a jammed lever, loose connection, or visible damage.
- Check the Bank 2 runner wiring for chafing, corrosion, or loose terminals that could prevent the actuator from opening.
- If scan-tool actuation is available, command the Bank 2 runners open and watch whether the linkage moves fully and smoothly.
- If movement is restricted, inspect the Bank 2 runners for carbon or debris; test the actuator and circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair a loose or damaged Bank 2 runner-control connector or wiring.
- Clean carbon or debris that holds the Bank 2 runners closed.
- Repair a damaged or binding Bank 2 runner linkage.
- Replace a failed Bank 2 runner actuator after checking that the runners and circuit move freely.
Can I keep driving?
A brief, gentle drive may be possible if the engine remains stable, but avoid demanding acceleration as it warms because airflow may be restricted. Stop if power loss becomes severe or the engine runs roughly, and have the fault checked soon.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
