OBD-II fault code

P26EA: Fuel Pump Control Module B

What it means

A general fault in the second fuel pump control module (smart pump controller, separate from the ECU). Internal self-test failed or communication with the ECU is degraded.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Fuel pump control module B controls a second fuel pump or pump circuit and communicates with the engine control module. This code indicates that module B has failed a self-check or that its communication with the engine controller is unreliable, which can interrupt fuel delivery.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Internal fault in the pump module
  2. Bus communication errors with ECU

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Hard start, no start, or stalling under load
  • Power loss especially at high load or rpm
  • Possible long cranking time

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and check for fuel pressure, pump, voltage supply, and communication codes alongside P26EA.
  2. Check whether the vehicle has long cranking, stalling under load, or power loss, and compare commanded pump operation with available live data.
  3. Inspect module B's power, ground, connectors, and communication wiring for corrosion, water entry, loose pins, or harness damage.
  4. Test the module's power and ground under load and check the communication circuit using the manufacturer's wiring diagram and procedure.
  5. If power, ground, wiring, and bus communication are sound, run the manufacturer's module self-test or pump control test to confirm an internal module fault.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair poor power, ground, or connector connections at fuel pump control module B.
  • Repair damaged communication wiring or connector terminals between module B and the engine controller.
  • Repair a pump circuit or fuel delivery fault found during the specified control test.
  • Replace fuel pump control module B if its internal fault is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

Hard starting, stalling, or power loss can worsen if fuel delivery from the circuit controlled by module B becomes unreliable. Avoid high-load driving, and stop if the engine stalls or cannot maintain safe power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
