OBD-II fault code

P269D: Exhaust Aftertreatment Glow Plug Control Circuit Low

What it means

Voltage on the aftertreatment glow plug control line is below the expected window. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The aftertreatment glow plug control circuit lets the module command the heater used to support DPF regeneration on some diesels. P269D means the monitored control-line voltage is lower than expected, which can happen when the wire is grounded, the relay coil is shorted, or a connector has a poor contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to ground
  2. Relay coil short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • DPF warning light
  • More frequent or unsuccessful DPF regeneration

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame data and live circuit status to confirm when the low-voltage fault occurs and whether the glow plug relay was commanded.
  2. Inspect the relay control wire along its route for chafing to ground, and check connectors for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
  3. While monitoring the circuit, gently move the accessible harness and connectors to see whether the low reading changes.
  4. Measure control-line voltage at the relay and check for an unintended short to ground using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure.
  5. Test the relay coil and connector contact path, then verify module power, grounds, and output if the wiring and relay pass.

Common fixes

  • Dry, clean, and reconnect a serviceable connector with moisture or light surface contamination.
  • Repair chafed control wiring or a short to ground.
  • Replace a relay with a shorted control coil.
  • Repair or replace damaged connector terminals that cannot maintain a sound contact.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs normally, gentle driving is usually possible, but avoid repeated short trips and heed a DPF warning because regeneration may not complete. Soot can build up in the filter, eventually restricting exhaust flow.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
