OBD-II fault code

P267A: B Rocker Arm Actuator Position Sensor Circuit Bank 2

What it means

The position sensor that confirms the B rocker arm switching state on bank 2 returns no usable signal.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The B rocker arm actuator on bank 2 changes the valve lift mode, and its position sensor reports whether the mechanism reached the commanded state. P267A sets when the controller cannot obtain a usable position signal from that specific sensor circuit, which can limit engine performance.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open sensor element
  2. Corroded sensor connector

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Reduced engine power or performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and check for related rocker arm actuator or engine performance codes, noting the engine conditions when the signal failed.
  2. Identify bank 2 and actuator B using the vehicle's service information, then inspect that position sensor's connector and wiring for looseness, oil, corrosion, or damage.
  3. Check the sensor supply, ground, and signal circuit at the bank 2 B actuator using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the B actuator position signal while commanding the available valve lift modes, if the vehicle supports that test.
  5. If the circuit is intact but the signal remains unusable, test the sensor and inspect the B rocker arm actuator mechanism on bank 2 for binding or failure.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean the bank 2 B rocker arm position sensor connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground in the bank 2 B sensor circuit.
  • Replace the failed B actuator position sensor on bank 2.
  • Repair a sticking or failed bank 2 B rocker arm actuator if the sensor and circuit check out.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or performance may make merging and overtaking less predictable, so avoid hard acceleration and high-speed trips. If the engine runs poorly or loses power significantly, stop somewhere safe and have the fault diagnosed.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
