OBD-II fault code

P24F0: Control Module Wake-up Circuit Low

What it means

The control module wake-up circuit signal is below the expected range. The code does not establish whether this prevents wake-up or keeps a module awake.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

A wake-up circuit carries a signal that tells a control module to become active. The monitoring module checks the signal level against its expected range. P24F0 sets when the wake-up signal is too low, which can result from a short to ground, a stuck switch, or resistance in a connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wake-up wire shorted to ground
  2. Door, hood or terminal switch stuck closed
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Intermittent electrical functions
  • A control module may not wake reliably

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan for related module communication and wake-up codes, and note which module or electrical functions fail to wake reliably.
  2. Inspect the wake-up wire and connectors for a shorted or pinched section, water intrusion, or corroded terminals.
  3. Check whether a door, hood, or terminal switch tied to the wake-up circuit is stuck in a state that holds the signal low.
  4. Using the wiring diagram, measure the wake-up signal at the affected module and compare it with the manufacturer's specification in the relevant key and switch states.
  5. Check voltage drop or connection resistance across suspect terminals and harness sections to find high resistance pulling the signal down.
  6. If the circuit wiring and switches pass, test the module's wake-up input according to the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Free or replace a stuck door, hood, or terminal switch that is holding the wake-up signal low.
  • Repair a wake-up wire shorted to ground or pinched against the body.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals causing high resistance.
  • Repair the affected module only if its input fails the manufacturer's test.

Can I keep driving?

Use caution if important electrical systems wake intermittently; lighting, stability, or other module-controlled functions may not be dependable. Avoid driving when an essential system is unavailable and have the circuit checked promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
