What it means
The compressor outlet switching valve control circuit has a voltage below the expected range. This indicates an electrical circuit fault; the code alone does not establish a boost-pressure fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The compressor outlet switching valve routes airflow between compressor stages on systems with staged or twin turbochargers. The control module monitors its electrical control circuit, and this code sets when voltage falls below the expected range, often from a short to ground; it does not by itself prove a boost-pressure fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced engine power or poor acceleration
- Delayed or inconsistent boost response
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check related turbocharger codes to see when the switching-valve circuit went low.
- Inspect the switching-valve connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, or insulation rubbed through to ground.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the control circuit for a short to ground and check connector pin fit.
- With the valve and module disconnected, test circuit continuity and isolation as directed by the manufacturer.
- If the wiring passes, test the switching valve and module output using the specified procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair wiring shorted to ground.
- Clean or repair corroded or loose switching-valve connector pins.
- Replace damaged sections of the switching-valve harness.
- Replace the valve if it fails the specified electrical test.
Can I keep driving?
A cautious drive may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but avoid hard acceleration, towing, and heavy loads. Staged boost may be reduced or inconsistent, which can limit acceleration.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
