OBD-II fault code

P216D: Fuel Injector Group F Supply Voltage Circuit/Open

What it means

The supply rail to injector group F is open, so none of the injectors in this group can fire. The affected cylinders produce no power and the engine runs rough or on reduced cylinders. Causes: a broken supply wire, an open relay or fuse, or a disconnected group-F supply connector.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Injector group F is supplied by a shared electrical feed for the injectors in that group. This code indicates the control module has detected an open in that group F supply circuit, which can prevent the affected injectors from firing and leave their cylinders misfiring or without power.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open supply wire or blown fuse
  2. Pin pushed back out of connector body
  3. Cracked solder joint inside the module or sensor

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Misfire or rough idle on the affected cylinder
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible fuel smell or smoke from exhaust

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check cylinder-specific misfire information to determine whether the affected cylinders are served by injector group F.
  2. With the ignition off, inspect the group F supply connector and wiring for a disconnected plug, broken conductor, corrosion, or a pushed-back terminal.
  3. Use the vehicle's wiring information to locate the group F fuse and supply relay, if fitted, and check them for an open or poor connection.
  4. Following the manufacturer's procedure, check for supply voltage at the group F feed and trace the circuit to locate where voltage is lost.
  5. If the fuse, relay, and visible wiring are sound, test circuit continuity and module connections before suspecting an internal control module fault.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect the group F supply connector or secure a loose terminal.
  • Replace a failed fuse after checking why it opened, or repair the faulty supply relay.
  • Repair the open conductor in the injector group F supply harness.
  • Repair an internal module connection only after the external circuit has tested correctly.

Can I keep driving?

Do not continue a long drive with a persistent misfire; if the engine runs steadily enough, drive gently for a short distance to reach repair. Unburned fuel can damage the catalytic converter, and reduced power can make traffic maneuvers unsafe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
