OBD-II fault code

P0E57: DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Too High

What it means

The control module monitors the voltage supplied to the DC/DC converter input. It sets this code when that voltage rises above the converter’s expected operating range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The DC/DC converter takes power from the high-voltage system and supplies the vehicle’s 12-volt electrical system. The control module monitors voltage at the converter input and sets P0E57 when that supply rises above the converter’s expected operating range, which may point to upstream regulation drift or an excessive voltage event.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Regenerative braking overshoot
  2. Upstream regulator drift

Symptoms

  • Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
  • 12-volt electrical system warning or electrical irregularities
  • Reduced power or charging performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame and live data for converter input voltage and regenerative-braking or charging conditions when the fault occurred.
  2. Check for related hybrid-system codes that could identify an upstream regulator or battery-control issue.
  3. Inspect accessible converter supply-path connectors and cables for damage, loose connections, or signs of overheating, following the manufacturer’s high-voltage safety procedures.
  4. Check 12-volt system status for abnormal electrical behavior that may accompany excessive converter input.
  5. Test the converter input and upstream regulation against the manufacturer’s procedure to distinguish an input-supply problem from a converter fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair a confirmed upstream regulation fault affecting converter input.
  • Correct a damaged or poor connection in the converter supply path.
  • Address a related regenerative-braking or hybrid-control fault identified by diagnosis.
  • Repair or replace the converter only if testing confirms it is responsible for the high input condition.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if electrical irregularities, reduced power, or charging warnings appear, since excessive converter input can affect the 12-volt system and converter operation. Stop if warnings worsen or electrical functions become unreliable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
