OBD-II fault code

P0E35: DC/DC Converter Voltage Sensor A Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The control module monitors the DC/DC converter voltage sensor A signal for stable, consistent readings. It sets this code when the signal is intermittent or erratic.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

DC/DC converter voltage sensor A sends a signal the control module expects to remain stable as converter conditions change. P0E35 sets when that signal drops out or fluctuates erratically, often because of a loose connection, an unstable ground, or vibration-sensitive contact.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
  • Reduced power or charging performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and graph sensor A's live signal to see whether it drops out or jumps, noting whether sensor B remains steady.
  2. Inspect sensor A's connector for incomplete seating, loose locks, corrosion, or terminals that may lose contact.
  3. Check the sensor A harness and ground path for chafing, loose connections, or damage that could change with vibration.
  4. Using the manufacturer's procedure, monitor the signal while gently checking the accessible harness for a change; do not disturb high-voltage components.
  5. If the wiring and ground remain stable, test sensor A for intermittent output and replace it only if the fault is confirmed.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure the sensor A connector.
  • Repair loose, corroded, or damaged terminals in the sensor A circuit.
  • Restore a stable sensor A ground connection.
  • Repair vibration-damaged wiring or replace sensor A if its output is confirmed intermittent.

Can I keep driving?

Because the fault can come and go, converter performance may change unexpectedly and reduced power can occur. Avoid demanding trips; stop safely if a warning appears or power becomes inconsistent.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
