OBD-II fault code

P0D37: Hybrid/EV Battery System Current High

What it means

The module monitors current in the hybrid or electric battery system. It sets this code when the detected current exceeds the expected range.

How it works

The hybrid or EV battery system current sensor reports current flowing into or out of the high-voltage battery. The module sets P0D37 when the reported current exceeds the range expected for the conditions it is monitoring.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Battery current sensor or circuit fault
  2. Battery system operating condition outside expected range

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save the freeze-frame data and review live battery-current readings to identify the operating state when the reading was high.
  2. Compare the reported current with the vehicle's charging or propulsion demand and other battery data to distinguish actual high current from a sensor error.
  3. With the vehicle powered down according to its service instructions, inspect the battery current sensor connector and accessible wiring for damage, corrosion, or poor contact.
  4. Test the sensor's power, ground, signal, and related wiring against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the circuit is sound, have the high-voltage battery system checked for an operating condition that could produce unexpectedly high current.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded battery-current sensor connection.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor connection in the current-sensor circuit.
  • Replace the battery current sensor if testing confirms it is reporting incorrectly.
  • Correct a verified battery-system condition that is causing current to exceed the expected range.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or charging interruptions may occur, and the vehicle may limit hybrid or EV operation. Avoid demanding acceleration or depending on normal charging until the cause is known; stop safely if the vehicle's power delivery becomes unpredictable.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
