What it means
The module monitors current through the DC/DC converter. It sets this code when the detected current exceeds the expected range.
How it works
The DC/DC converter changes electrical power between the vehicle's voltage systems, and its current measurement helps the module detect excessive load or abnormal output. This code sets when measured converter current exceeds the expected range, which can result from high demand or a downstream short.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Load demand too high
- Short circuit downstream
How to diagnose it
- Use freeze-frame data and live data to check when DC/DC converter current rises, noting whether it coincides with high electrical demand.
- Review related low-voltage charging and electrical-system codes for clues to an overloaded circuit or charging fault.
- Inspect the low-voltage system and accessible wiring for damaged insulation, loose connections, or signs of a downstream short.
- Check current draw on affected downstream circuits using the vehicle's wiring information and the manufacturer's procedures.
- If downstream loads and wiring pass, verify the converter current sensor and DC/DC converter operation against the specified tests.
Common fixes
- Repair a shorted downstream wire or component identified during testing.
- Correct an abnormal electrical load on the low-voltage system.
- Repair loose or damaged converter circuit connections.
- Replace or repair the DC/DC converter or its current sensing circuit if testing confirms a fault.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle's electrical system remains normal and there are no other warnings, limit unnecessary electrical loads and have the cause checked soon. Stop safely if charging warnings, electrical failures, or abnormal vehicle operation develop.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
