OBD-II fault code

P0C3A: DC/DC Converter Temperature Sensor A Low

What it means

The control module monitors the DC/DC converter temperature sensor A signal and sets this code when the signal is below the expected electrical range. This indicates a low circuit reading, which may not reflect the converter's actual temperature.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

DC/DC converter temperature sensor A monitors converter temperature for the hybrid control system. The module checks the electrical level of sensor A's signal, and P0C3A sets when that signal is below the expected range. This low circuit reading may come from a short to ground or a sensor fault and does not establish the converter's actual temperature.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to ground in the sensor circuit
  2. Faulty temperature sensor
  3. Poor connector connection

Symptoms

  • Hybrid-system warning light may illuminate
  • Reduced power or limited hybrid operation
  • DC/DC converter may limit output to protect itself

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame and live sensor A data to determine whether the low reading is persistent or intermittent.
  2. Inspect sensor A's connector and harness for corrosion, damaged terminals, chafing, or contact with ground.
  3. Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor A signal circuit for a short to ground and poor connections.
  4. Test sensor A and its circuit using the manufacturer's procedures and specifications.
  5. Repair the short or connection fault, or replace sensor A if it fails testing, then confirm the reading is plausible.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure the sensor A connector; repair damaged terminals.
  • Repair sensor A wiring shorted to ground.
  • Replace sensor A if it fails the specified test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid sustained high electrical loads while the converter temperature signal is faulty, because the system may limit converter output or lose dependable temperature protection. Stop safely if electrical functions fail or power drops substantially.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
