OBD-II fault code

P0875: Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch D Circuit

What it means

Electrical fault on the transmission fluid pressure sensor D circuit. Sensor D monitors an additional hydraulic line on multi-clutch transmissions.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Transmission pressure sensor/switch D monitors hydraulic pressure at a D channel used by the transmission control system, where fitted. P0875 indicates an electrical fault in the D sensor circuit, so the control module cannot rely on that channel's signal for shift control.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Wiring fault

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check whether the code is current, then review available live sensor D data for an absent or implausible signal.
  2. Locate sensor D using vehicle-specific service information and inspect its connector and harness for damage, looseness, corrosion, or contamination.
  3. Check that the D sensor connector is fully seated and its terminals have no visible damage or poor contact.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test the D circuit's power or reference, ground, signal, and continuity against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the circuit tests correctly, test pressure sensor/switch D and replace it only if its output fails the specified checks.

Common fixes

  • Secure the sensor D connector and clean or repair poor terminal contact.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a failed connection in the D circuit.
  • Replace pressure sensor/switch D if it fails testing with a sound circuit.
  • Clear the code and confirm D-channel data is present and stable after the repair.

Can I keep driving?

If the transmission shifts normally, drive gently only as needed to reach a place where it can be checked; avoid towing and hard acceleration. If shifting becomes harsh, delayed, or slipping, stop driving because the D-channel fault may impair shift control and continued slipping can cause damage.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
