OBD-II fault code

P07B6: Transmission Park Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Performance High

What it means

The signal from park position sensor or switch A is outside the expected performance range on the high side.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Park position sensor or switch A supplies a signal to the transmission control module for park-position monitoring. P07B6 sets when that signal is outside its expected performance range on the high side, which differs from a low-side performance fault or a simple open circuit.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Park position sensor or switch A fault
  2. Damaged wiring or poor connector contact
  3. Sensor misalignment or mechanical wear
  4. Fault in the transmission control module input circuit

Symptoms

  • Check engine or transmission warning light on
  • Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
  • Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
  • Slipping or shuddering during gear changes

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and monitor sensor A's live signal as positions change to identify when it exceeds the expected performance range.
  2. Inspect sensor A for loose mounting or misalignment and check its connector for damaged or corroded terminals.
  3. Inspect circuit A for wiring damage, poor contact, or an unintended connection to a supply source.
  4. Use the wiring diagram and manufacturer's procedure to measure sensor A's signal across operating states and check the circuit for a high-side fault.
  5. If sensor and circuit tests pass, test the transmission control module input against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Correct sensor A alignment or mounting if the manufacturer's procedure identifies it as the cause.
  • Repair poor connector contact or damaged wiring in circuit A.
  • Replace sensor or switch A if its output remains above the performance range during testing.
  • Repair the module input only when tests isolate the high-side fault to the module.

Can I keep driving?

Use the parking brake whenever parked and verify the vehicle is secure. Avoid driving if the gear display or shifts are unreliable, or if slipping or limp mode develops.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
