OBD-II fault code

P06FF: Economy Mode Lamp Control Circuit

What it means

The control module monitors the electrical circuit that controls the Economy Mode lamp. It sets this code when it detects a fault in that circuit.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The Economy Mode lamp circuit carries the control module’s command to illuminate the dashboard indicator when economy mode is active. P06FF sets when the module detects an electrical fault in that lamp circuit, such as an open, short, failed lamp, or poor connection.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or short in the lamp wiring
  2. Failed Economy Mode lamp
  3. Poor connector contact
  4. Fault in the lamp control circuit

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible limp mode or no-start
  • Multiple follow-up faults across modules
  • Reset/relearn may be needed after repair

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and related body or powertrain codes, and check whether the Economy Mode lamp fails to illuminate or behaves intermittently.
  2. Inspect the dashboard lamp or display and its connectors for a loose fit, damage, or corrosion.
  3. Using the wiring diagram, inspect the lamp circuit between the control module and indicator for an open, short, or damaged section.
  4. Test the lamp or display circuit and its connector contacts according to the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the lamp and wiring check out, verify the control module's output and circuit operation before considering module replacement.

Common fixes

  • Secure a loose connector or clean corroded lamp-circuit contacts.
  • Repair an open, short, or damaged wire in the Economy Mode lamp circuit.
  • Replace a failed Economy Mode lamp or repair the indicator display as applicable.
  • Repair a confirmed fault in the lamp control output circuit.
  • Replace a control module only after its output fault is verified and the circuit is sound.

Can I keep driving?

This code usually affects the Economy Mode indicator rather than braking or steering, so normal driving is generally possible if the vehicle behaves normally. You may not be able to tell from the lamp whether economy mode is active.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
